Colorado School of Mines

Colorado School of Mines (CSM) is a public research university devoted to engineering and applied science. It has the highest admissions standards of any university in Colorado and among the highest of any public university in the U.S. CSM has distinguished itself by developing a curriculum and research program that is geared towards responsible stewardship of the earth and its resources. In addition to strong education and research programs in traditional fields of science and engineering, CSM is one of a very few institutions in the world having broad expertise in resource exploration, extraction, production and utilization. As such, CSM occupies a unique position among the world's institutions of higher education.
Founded in 1874, CSM is located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in the city of Golden, a community of 15,000 people, just 20 minutes west of Denver. The student body is comprised of over 4,488 undergraduate and graduate students. In the fall of 2008, 24.8% of the student enrollment was female. Listed below are some of the programs and services provided for female students:
**Women in Science, Engineering and Mathematics (WISEM) Program - Workshops, resources, and research are provided for the entire campus community regarding gender and equity issues.
**Society of Women Engineers (SWE) - The CSM chapter is the 2nd largest chapter in the nation and the largest professional organization on campus.
**Women's History Month Luncheon - Co-sponsored with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL)
**Chevron Lecture Luncheon - Every fall a female leader in the area of science, engineering, or business presents to the CSM community.
**Graduate Women's Forum (GWF) - Four forums are held each academic year to discuss topics pertinent to graduate women students.
**Women in Geophysics Mentoring Program - A formal mentoring program where female students in the geophysics departments and matched with local industry mentors.
