Sona Dhar

IT Specialist

Sona Dhar joined MentorNet as IT Specialist in June 2008. Sona’s main responsibilities include development, maintenance, and enhancements to the MentorNet web site, intranet site, and database management system. Also, Sona provides assistance with internal user support and network management, design, and implementation.

Sona received her undergraduate degree in Computer Science from Cummins College of Engineering for Women, Pune, India. She received her MS degree in Computer Engineering from George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia. She has worked as a consultant in various software developer/engineer positions in education, healthcare and financial industries.

"I understand the challenges faced by a woman right from being in college until her initial career years; the hope and guidance that a mentor can provide during these challenging years can be priceless. I was really moved by the mission that MentorNet furthers and wanted to be a part of that mission. I believe that the kind of mentoring service MentorNet provides is very effective in today’s e-social networking world. I think it’s very important for the society as a whole – to maintain the retention of women and underrepresented populations in the STEM fields in order to progress and move further."
