Leila Armush
Consultant for Media and Communications
Leila Armush joined MentorNet in July of 2009 as our Media and Communications Consultant. She creates MentorNet's e-newsletters, serves as point of contact with campus reps, handles testimonials and concerns from mentors and protégés, and designs the layout and visuals of both collateral and the (upcoming!) MentorNet website redesign.
Prior to her employment at MentorNet, Leila developed visual campaign strategies and graphics on a contract basis for a variety of local small businesses and non-profits. She has been formerly employed as a graphic designer for Macy’s retail headquarters in San Francisco, designing visuals for Macy’s stores throughout California and the Western U.S, in addition to a copy editor/page designer for the Bay Area newspaper The San Mateo County Times. She received her bachelor’s degree in journalism from The University of Texas at Austin and an associate’s degree in graphic design from The Art Institute of California—San Francisco.
Leila has been an active participant in U.S. refugee, immigrant, and animal welfare organizations since her childhood. As a volunteer, she has assisted displaced victims of war from Iraq, Bosnia, Kosovo, Somalia and Latin America in locating housing, jobs and material donations upon arrival in the United States. She has also fostered dozens of orphaned kittens and participated in the Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) program, which helps control California’s feral cat overpopulation.
She has lived in the Bay Area since February 2003.
