Jennifer L. Dockter, Ph.D.
Director of Programs
As Director of Programs, Jennifer is responsible for implementing, maintaining and enhancing MentorNet's programs, including program development, participant communications, development of web site content, partner communications and oversight of participant recruitment.
Jennifer trained to be a research scientist by obtaining her bachelor's degree in integrative biology from the University of California at Berkeley and her Ph.D. in biomedical sciences from the University of California at San Francisco. She realized during graduate school that life in the lab was not for her, however, and she turned her attention to science education and a UCSF program that brought scientists into schools. Through the Women's Triad Project, an innovative, girls-only after-school science club for middle-school girls, Jennifer first got involved in women in science and engineering. In November 1999, she joined MentorNet.
"The reason I came to MentorNet, and why I stay, is that I really believe in our mission. Having been a science student myself, I have an interest in the issues women face in this field," she says. "Through MentorNet, I hope that students can find support, mentors can find satisfaction, and both can use the MentorNet Community to supplement what their email pairings provide."
