Clarkson University

Founded in 1896, Clarkson is an independent technological university that includes schools of Business, Engineering, Liberal Arts, and Science. Undergraduate programs lead to the degrees of Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Professional Studies.


The Graduate School offers programs leading to the Master of Science, Master of Engineering, Master of Business Administration, Master of Physical Therapy, and Doctor of Philosophy. Clarkson is located in Potsdam, New York and the campus is situated in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains.
Ottawa and Montreal are within two hours' drive and Syracuse is 142 miles southwest. Enrollment for the fall 2000: Undergraduate students 2,539; and graduate students 338. Clarkson currently has two professional societies in the field of engineering and science. They are the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and Women in Mathematics and Computer Science.

The school of engineering consists of Chemical Engineering, Civil & Environmental Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, and Mechanical & Aeronautical Engineering. The school of Science divisions are Life and Health Sciences (departments of Biology and Pyschology and programs in Environmental and Occupational Health and in Environmental Science and Policy, and advising in medicine, veterinary medicine, and dentistry; Mathematics and Computer (departments in Mathematics and Computer Science); and Chemistry and Physical Science (departments of Chemistry and Physics).
