University of California, Santa Cruz
The University of California, Santa Cruz is dedicated to excellence in undergraduate education, graduate studies and research, and students can take advantage of innovative academic planning combined with the research resources and scholarship strengths of the University of California system. In addition, students can take advantage of the campus's stunning natural setting, and easy access to the Monterey and San Francisco Bay Areas.
UC Santa Cruz offers both undergraduate and graduate students outstanding opportunities to learn the theory and practice of engineering and computer science at a beautiful campus just 'over the hill' from Silicon Valley. A particularly exciting prospect for the future of these engineering programs is participation in the new University of California Silicon Valley Center - at NASA Ames Research Park in Mountain View, California. As this center is developed, engineering students will have extensive opportunities for education and research teaming with Silicon Valley industry partners, NASA and other universities, such as Carnegie Mellon.
The Jack Baskin School of Engineering, UCSC's first professional school, offers programs and curricula that help educate students to meet the changing demands of society and a high-technology global marketplace, and prepares students for the human aspects as well as the technical challenges in careers in engineering and computer science fields. The School offers bachelor of science degrees in Computer Engineering, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems Management, and a dual degree with UC Berkeley for students interested in other engineering disciplines. The School also offers master's and doctoral degrees in Computer Engineering and Computer Science. A graduate program in Electrical Engineering is in the approval process and anticipated for Fall 2001 admissions.
Among the many campus units at UCSC that provide a wide range of student services to respond to individual needs, interests, and levels of personal development is the Women's Center, a Student Affairs unit deeply committed to helping students realize their full potential -- academically, professionally, and personally. The Center's diverse programs include conferences, workshops, panels, films, readings, exhibits, recreation, study space, support groups, theme dinners, community workteams, and more.
